HOLOTAPE

Toronto-based musician and composer. After graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Music in classical piano, then studying jazz for a number of years, “Holotape” felt he had enough of learning to play within the confines of dead people’s ideas. He tried his best to unlearn all of his training and spent a few years working in studios as an engineer while figuring out what to do. His eyes weren’t opened until he encountered his first monophonic analog synthesizer. The world of possibilities within a single note fascinated him so greatly that he spent over a decade studying deep synthesis. He currently enjoys spacing out to his own drones and talking to girls about synthesizers. He is also an accomplished guitarist and turntablist, and in addition to the HOLOTAPE project, plays with the Toronto new-wave duo Kiss the Messenger (old interview) along with singer Jaclyn Kaye.
